I reached the top of the hill nearby my house. I looked around and I raced toward the edge of the hill, the wind tugging at my hair. I leaped, bounced of the hill and.. after a brief hearth-stopping moment of falling down, I flew. The wind was carrying my weightless body as I looked down at my house, playground and surrounding streets.
I dreamed this dream many times as a child and even few times as an adult. Have you ever had an unrealistic dream come truth? I have!
Most of us had those dreams about flying as kids. I was lucky enough to try weightlessness and fell in love with diving long ago. In the post below I will try to convince you to try scuba diving at least once in your life.
Here’s why you need to try scuba diving at least once.
YES, DIVING REALLY IS LIKE FLYING
Soon after my Open Water course I was diving over a beautiful vast plateau. As I reached its edge and plateau became a deep drop off I kept swimming and looking down. As I hovered above the abyss I realized my dream just became truth. I am weightless. The gravity no longer affects me and indeed.. I am flying.
Nothing compares to this feeling of weightlessness, that’s why 6 million people in the world love it so much.
I MAY BE ONE OF THE MOST EXCITING THINGS YOU’LL DO IN YOUR LIFE
I like hiking and cycling. I enjoy skiing. But nothing I’ve tried compares to diving. What other activity will give you the thrill of unknown (every dive is different), excitement of communing with wilderness plus feeling of total freedom and weightless?
WARNING! YOU MAY GET ADDICTED
I’ve seen it so many times. A newbie divers take first cautious underwater breaths in the pool, head on shaky legs for their very first dive and.. come up with big grins on their faces hungry for more. It happened to me and my hubby, it happened to our students.. it may as well happen to you.
Beware, it is so much fun that after you try scuba diving for the fist time next thing you know you are planning a diving safari and buying your own equipment.
YOU WILL LEARN SOMETHING NEW
It’s always good to learn something new, right? Diving may not be a rocket science, but there is some knowledge to aquire and couple of skills to master. Although it may seem overwhelming on beginning, you will see how proud of yourself you’ll be after your first dive.
Moreover, I bet you’ll learn couple of things that will surprise you! Did you know that corals are not rocks or plants, as many think? They are in fact animals living in colonies in symbiosis with algae. That’s why you should never touch or step on them! You wouldn’t step on your dog’s tail, would you?
YOU WILL MEET SOME REALLY COOL PEOPLE
I’m not saying every single diver in the world is a great person, but honestly and immodestly speaking most of them are. There is something in scuba diving that gathers really cool adventure-loving people together. And most of them have some really interesting stories to tell. It’s great to keep in touch with your diving friends, learn about their underwater discoveries and plan future diving trips together.
YOU WILL GET CLOSE TO WILD ANIMALS
Alright, where else will you easily meet dozens of wild creatures in their natural habitat within an hour? Not even great African safari can provide that. Although you are entering different world, feel safe. Inhabitants of the underworld are usually just minding their own business. If you’re careful and respectful they will allow you a brief peep into their busy lives.
YOU WILL CHALLENGE YOURSELF
Do you like to challenge yourself every now and then? I just love it. I love trying new things, the more challenging the better. If you didn’t do anything adventurous in a while, I dare you – try diving. You are certain to feel this awesome adrenaline rush in your blood when you take your first breath in the ocean or lake.
IT’S THE MOST RELAXING THING EVER!
Seriously, after you get over initial insecureness diving is the ultimate relaxation technique. Imagine you don’t feel the gravity, your muscles are relaxed and you move very slowly. You listen to your slow breath and other underwater sounds. It’s a bit like watching slow motion movie. For me diving is like meditation. So much better than joga! Try it, and after a while you will feel the same way.
So what do you think, will you try scuba diving next time you have opportunity?
Maybe you already have? Do you like water adventures?
I’d love to hear your diving story – share it in comments.
PIN it for later!
